Quintessent is a sailing vessel built in Taiwan in 1983. She has been hand built by master craftsmen to standards that include, safety, function and the best products for sailing vessels in her day. She has incredible appointments such as the all wood interior finish which is very rare today in these times of 'plastic' factory made boats.

We love sailing so much and the closeness it brings us to creation and natural beauty. It is something we are compelled to share with you.

In this website you will discover pictures, stories and memories of past Quintessent guests. Scroll down to get more information from brochures to ideas for winter sailing and links to interesting sites.

Jay Luck is a Coast Guard licensed captain to 100-ton vessels. Jay's son, although a teenager, knows the Quintessent well. He sailed
her with Captain Luck since he was 4, and is a fine seaman. Lori Love,
is our intuitive chef and Lomilomi massage healer. She adds to our
experience from her nature studies and it's relevance to our energy,
peace and balance, including health and beauty. Lori brings a knowledge
of raw foods nutrition, acquired from observations with internationally
renowned raw foods expert Dr. Aajonus Vonderplanitz. Lori continued her
experience in Hawaii at retreats she designed for detoxification and
holistic healing with foods.

We sail the Quintessent in the tropics, the great lakes and Mississippi River while offering our guests opportunities to sail with us in all locations. Meanwhile in 2010, join us in the tropics and the US East Coast. Bahamas phone number is 242-395-4100

Business Sailing Seminars held this past 4 years were great success'! Thank you to all who joined us.
We are now taking advanced reservations for "Wind in Your Sales". In October 2008 we headed down the 'ole Miss and are now in the Caribbean and the East Coast of the USA. Check out the opportunity to sail some or all of the adventure with us. We are offering 2 hour, daily, or several day sailing adventures. Call 612-868-8177 or Bahamas 242-395-4100 anytime for more information.

Caribbean and US east coast Sailing 2010-11; Quintessent and More
Caribbean and US east coast Sailing 2010-11; Quintessent and More
Sail away on your own chartered yacht. Includes captain and first mate.

When sailing on Quintessent our short charters (less than 15 hours)are very private: We'll sail with as few as 2 people (usually a premium if you want a guarantee it's just for two). When we book separate groups who don't know each other we limit our guests to 6, that way it's easy to have private, more intimate space if you don't care to mingle.

We do accomodate groups of friends and family with larger numbers of people and then would offer group rates.

Our Boat and Breakfast cruises and several days to weekly cruises accomodate 2-4 people. Each couple will have their own cabin.

Weekly cruises start as little as 100.00 per person per day.

40-60 foot sailing vessels available. If you want privacy for just you and someone special, we can do that. If you want to be with just your friends or join others who love to sail, we can arrange that too!
From one to three staterooms depending on the size of your group.
You can crew or just sit back and relax. Charter costs range from 1000 to 2500 per cabin per week(really depends on boat size and group size).

Capn` Jay
Capn' Jay enjoys cruise June 26, 2004. He is a licensed captain for vessels to 100 ton. He believes in the saying, "It's not the gale, but the set of your sail that determines which way you'll go."
Capn' Jay
To me sailing is like my zen. It's like air, I have to have it in my life. I have the unique and blessed opportunity to share sailing with people from many walks of life. The inspiration and peace it provides them is sometimes incredible.
Folks have renewed vows, become engaged, slowed down and realized what is important in life. I'm blessed to be part of that inspiration.
We're embarking on our TV show starting in June. Watch for more information.

Set sail for adventure with Capt Luck and Lori love on an exploration into the heart of America down the Mississippi river witnessing what makes America great as they enjoy bartering from port to port and rediscover the American dream of free enterprise life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Set sail on a fun-loving adventure with Captain Luck and Lori Love as they recapture the universal dream beginning by bartering their way from port to port down America’s main artery, the Mississippi River on the way to the visit the ocean and Great Lakes ports of America. The tropics we'll visit begin with the Bahamas, the nearest Caribbean Islands to the United States. Vicariously experience the lifestyle rich in nature and beauty while living by bartering with locals at portside destinations. Learn along the way Lori's passion for eating a primal, raw diet and connecting, and sharing meals with the local people upholding indigenous traditions of hunting, fishing, harvesting and gathering. Learn break-through living skills along the way with Captain Luck as he navigates and sails the waterways discovering spectacular hidden resources and unknown truths. Share the twists, dramas, laughter and luck it takes to sustain, survive and thrive living aboard and connecting with communities at each port.

In the spirit of adventure and creative entrepreneurship, Captain Luck and Lori Love will strive to meet their travel needs by exchanging sailboat rides, massage, fresh fish, and miscellaneous surprises. They know sailing and in Lori’s case living off the land in sustainable cultures as a raw food chef, tour guide and expert on the Big Island of Hawaii. They made a conscious decision to get off the grid and live a lifestyle of freedom, health and connection with the earth rather than just walking and driving on it to get some task accomplished.

Discover local American and other ports cities of the world's traditions and secret nature sanctuaries along the journey. You will witness unique lifestyles of people willing to trade for natural beauty tips, truly connecting communication techniques, navigational advice, boat equipment and maintenance tips and challenges when a boat is your home or your weekend getaway. Each port of call will reveal interesting characters and cultural highlights.

Participate in the excitement and help chart the course by sending tips via the Captains Blog. Viewers can recommend markets, music venues and local activities and just maybe a chance to appear on the show as one of the ‘characters’. Share in the Captain and Lori Love’s passion for seeking out primal diet supplies and marine gear. Help them navigate through channels and towns as they set sail through the heart of American ports and discover the best in all of us.

Sponsors will be boating suppliers, outdoor clothing and sporting goods, organic food sources, wind generator and solar collection suppliers and travel companies. The outdoor industry has lost customers in the last 20 years mainly because many of the families now raising today’s children never camped or boated, never eat food unless it’s at the restaurant or prepackaged. The concept of the great outdoors is the BBQ.

Today American’s are fatter and less healthy than ever before and frankly afraid of adventure beyond the computer game and cable TV. Eating locally produced fresh foods (even in other cpouountries) is what we all did only 50-60 years ago. Look what has happened to our health since then. Luck and Love will encourage the locals to once again discover the advantages of eating local and fresh for better health and wellness.

Occasionally the show will have as guests children who will discover something new about themselves by overcoming the fear of leaving the cities, getting into nature and learning about the depth of interesting people in this great country.

Each day begins with Captain Luck and Lori Love checking their Captain's Blog where American's can share hotspot tips, warnings and comments about local culture and food. Then, based upon that advice and their own research and knowledge they locate the resources they will need at each port along the way. Once they arrive at port they begin searching out their sources and the bartering fun begins. The first day in port is completely dedicated to bartering for resources. The second day in port is for discovering the local customs and culture. On the third day Captain Jay and Lori Love will host a bon-voyage sailing party with the locals who helped out. On the fourth day Captain Luck and Lori Love will set sail for a natural location nearby where they reflect upon their adventure and witness the sheer beauty and awesome delight of the area.

The pilot episode will feature Captain Luck and Lori Love in Stillwater, Minnesota sailing to their home port of Lake City, the largest sailing marina and the only real lake on the Mississippi river. In Stillwater, Captain Luck and Lori Love will connect with Native American activist and author Winona LaDuke who will share with us indigenous knowledge and food sources of the area. Along the way, Artic explorer Will Steger will join us for some sailing lessons as he weaves his tales of arctic exploration and global warming in exchange. We’ll hear about how the French explorers settled in Old Frontenac and attempted the turn the Native American’s into Christians. Upon reaching their home port of Lake City, Captain Luck and Lori Love will uphold the local's indigenous traditions of: fishing with the Hmong community; milking cows for fresh milk at a local dairy farm, and collecting eggs and honey from Earthen Path farm. We will speak and learn with local Tine Thevenin about her diverse and satisfying lifestyle in the valley and her knowledge of the local lifestyle and culture and then listen to local musicians in the evening at Oak Center. The next day we will invite all of our helpers to a fun day of partying and sailing on Lake Pepin to celebrate our success and join the Square Dancers at the Maiden Rock Apple Farm after dining at the Palate in Stockholm, where the lucky 6-8 guests feast on a 6 course meal prepared by locals with local organic ingredients. Our final day on Lake Pepin, Captain Luck will sail us to Hok-Si-La state park and the Laura Engels Memorial in Pepin WI before a great dinner at the famous Harbor View restaurant in Pepin Village where folks often drive over 1 hour from the Twin Cities or Rochester just for dinner or lunch.

Next, a series of 12 episodes will chronicle Captain luck and Lori Love's travels down the Mississippi river to the southernmost state of Florida and Key West.

Episode 2
Captain Luck and Lori love sail from Lake City to LaCrosse, WI just in time for the Oktoberfest, which may just be the largest Oktoberfest in the Midwest and possibly the entire USA. On the way they’ll find out why the fishing in the Nelson River bottoms just below Lake Pepin boasts some of the best pan fishing and trapping on the Mississippi. Lori will prepare the fresh local pan fish ceviche style.
This area features the largest concentration of Eagles in the USA. We will experience the bald eagles at their nest and natural surroundings also visiting the National Eagle Center in Wabasha.
Wabasha also has the oldest operating hotel in the state where it’s said the ghost of a woman waiting for her steamboat captain husband to return still roams the turret room. You can even pick a cat to stay in your room if you like.
Alma boasts the river ways holdover spot for migrating Trumpeter Swans.
The trip to LaCrosse will pass through no less than 3 locks as part of the more than 50 in the Mississippi River system. Although it may be a warm October day, the nip in the air, the harvesting activities and the birds gathering for heading south the fact winter is coming is apparent.
The Quintessent Crew is joined by a couple from near LaCrosse, who produce self sustaining landscapes for the areas neighborhoods, will be sharing knowledge of local plants and their value to the people and wildlife in the harsh winters.

You never know what the crew of the Quintessent will be forced to do to survive!!!!

Most of the footage is Raw. We've filmed a lot and only just begun to get it on Youtube. So bear with us in the first dozen or so videos...
